About
Hi, I’m Anjali Dhawan, Indian by birth, Australian by choice, and a storyteller who expresses love through food. My heart will always beat with the flavours, colours, and traditions of India, while Australia has become the place where I’ve grown, raised a family, and rediscovered my roots in new and unexpected ways. Together, these two worlds shape the way I cook, create, and connect.
Cooking wasn’t something I fell in love with as a child. Like many in a working‑class household, it began as a shared responsibility; a chore that simply needed to be done. But over the years, something beautiful happened. What started as duty slowly transformed into passion. Experimenting with ingredients became exciting, mistakes turned into lessons, and the kitchen became a place where I could express creativity, comfort, and care.
Even after more than two decades of cooking, I still proudly call myself a home cook — one with an adventurous palate and a deep curiosity for flavours. My family has always been my biggest support (and my most honest critics). We’re unapologetic foodies who love trying, making, and eating different cuisines together. No matter how busy life gets, we make it a point to sit together for at least one meal a day, usually dinner, where food becomes the backdrop for conversations, laughter, and connection.
Food Kalakaar, previously known as It’s All About Food, is my dream project. The name reflects who I am: an artist of food, a creator who blends tradition with experimentation, and a storyteller who believes every dish carries a memory. Here, I share recipes from all corners of my kitchen, traditional Indian dishes, fusion creations inspired by my life in Australia, quick meals for busy days, comforting family favourites, and global recipes that have found a home in my heart.
My goal is simple: to help you enjoy not just the food on your plate, but the process of making it. Cooking is an act of love, a moment of pause, a way to connect with your roots and the people you share your table with.
I may be better at cooking than writing, but I promise to share my kitchen with honesty, warmth, and a whole lot of flavour. I’d love for you to try the recipes, leave your thoughts, and share your own food stories with me.
Thank you for being here.

Thanks so much for the follow! I love to connect with Indian friends . . . . I love Incredible India! May I ask where you lived in India before travelling to Australia? Have a lovely Sunday~
Hello.. Mumbai before Marriage and New Delhi later 😊
Ah the huge cities! We spent little time there as we were a group of 10 or 11 architecture students being lead by my husband , the professor of architecture. We traveled extensively in Rajasthan, the north and the south seeing lots of sacred architecture! We were in India, Jan -May 2013 and again in 2015 with a second group! I loved every minute of my time there!
That’s really great to know.. It’s a beautiful country which had lots of diversity in itself 😊
